Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS) is seeking a Project Officer (Research Program), to assist the Research Manager in the implementation of ANROWS’s Research Program and the Research Management System, working towards an end to violence against women and their children.

About ANROWS

ANROWS aspires to be an innovative research organisation with authoritative leadership and high impact to support the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010–2022 (the National Plan). Our mission is to deliver relevant and translatable research evidence which drives policy and practice, leading to a reduction in the levels of violence against women and their children.

ANROWS is funded primarily by the Commonwealth and state and territory governments of Australia to assist them in achieving the National Plan’s vision of women and their children living free from violence and in safe communities.

About the position

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), reporting to the Research Manager, Research Program, and is located at the ANROWS national office in Sydney (Level 11, 31 Market Street, Sydney NSW 2000). The appointment is for a fixed term from commencement until 30 June 2024 with possible extension, subject to funding.

Working across the Knowledge Production and Evidence to Action teams, the Project Officer will primarily support the implementation the Sexual Harassment Research Program, as well as other research programs as required. The position will assist the Research Manager in the implementation of ANROWS’s Research Program and the Research Management System. This may include a range of research, project management and administrative tasks across all streams of the Research Program, but will have a focus on the Sexual Harassment Research Program. The Project Officer will also provide support to the Evidence to Action team, responsible for the implementation and support of ANROWS’s knowledge translation and exchange activities including publications and resources, media and communications, and events.

Remuneration and leave entitlements

The salary range for this position is $83,606 to $88,704 per annum plus 10% employer contributions to the employee’s chosen superannuation fund. ANROWS staff are entitled to 4 weeks annual leave, in addition to personal and sick leave; flexible working arrangements and an option to salary sacrifice.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the ANROWS Research Program. This may include: administrative support to grants rounds and commissioned research projects; supporting research quality assurance activities such as peer review processes and the ANROWS internal ethics panel; supporting the coordination of peer assessment panels, advisory groups and other similar structures; and supporting other research grants management tasks as required.
  • Support the maintenance of the ANROWS Research Management System. This may include supporting the development of policies, procedures, processes and systems for the assessment, commissioning and management of research grants at ANROWS.
  • Contribute to the development of ANROWS’s knowledge translation publications and resources. This may include coordinating the editing, type-setting and design of ANROWS publications; and project managing, preparing, commissioning, coordinating and/or writing knowledge translation publications and resources.
  • Lead or participate in a range of ANROWS knowledge translation and information distribution activities. This may include: contribution of content for the ANROWS website; writing and creating e-alerts and other announcements for new publications and resources; supporting the production of ANROWS’s ‘Notepad’; and ANROWS’s social media presence.
  • Provide analysis of information on violence against women in the context of knowledge translation and exchange. This may include: preparing policy submissions and expert advice to various government enquiries; and responding to complex enquiries from ANROWS stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with external researchers, policymakers, service designers and ANROWS team members. This includes working closely with commissioned researchers to ensure high-quality research is delivered in accordance with grant agreements.
  • Undertake other project management and administrative duties as required.
  • Provide assistance to the Director, Research Program, Director, Evidence to Action and other senior staff as required.

Selection criteria

Essential

  • A graduate qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in government, community services, advocacy and/or research addressing one or more areas of violence against women and/or their children.
  • Well-developed project management, organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to effectively determine priorities, mitigate risks and achieve defined outcomes within strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability in knowledge translation, exchange, implementation and/or dissemination of complex information, including the ability to translate complex information into plain English for a range of audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, including the capacity to build and maintain positive professional relationships and partnerships with non-government and government stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with demonstrated skills in editing and/or proofreading a variety of publications, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the broad range of issues relating to domestic and family violence.

Desirable

  • Experience in research governance, contract management and/or grants administration.
  • Understanding of research methods and design and/or social policy and the application of research to policy and practice.
  • Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people who identify as LGBTIQ, and people with disability, as well as competence in working effectively with people in these groups.
