Our client, a well-established and highly regarded community services organisation, supports the health and wellbeing of women, their families, and their communities, providing assistance to vulnerable and disadvantaged women through their clinic, counselling, and support services.

About the Role

Reporting to the Aboriginal Client Services Manager, and as a member of the Aboriginal Client Services team , you will provide one to one counselling advocacy and support for Aboriginal women and their families. This includes providing emotional and practical support, case management and counselling on an individual, family and group basis (including face to face, telephone, and outreach).

Applicants from Aboriginal background preferred, though applicants with high level of Aboriginal cultural competency and significant experience working with Aboriginal communities in Perth metro area will be considered.

This position is available on a full-time or part-time (4 days per week) basis, covering two sites based in Northbridge and Joondalup.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role you will possess strong interpersonal skills to engage with consumers, their families and carers coupled with skills in person centred, consumer focused practice, problem solving, planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic, psychoeducational or support groups.

Essential

  • Qualified or significant training and work-based experience in one of the following disciplines: Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or equivalent
  • Sound understanding and/or experience working with other cultures including Aboriginal communities
  • Experience as a mental health and/or AOD counsellor, with a good understanding of recovery-oriented practice and evidenced based alcohol and other drug use interventions
  • Complex case management skills, including de-escalation, crisis support and safety planning, using reflective practice principles Including clinical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to work alongside people with multiple needs and complex trauma using a case management approach to treatment
  • Ability to write comprehensive case notes, engage in case conferencing and case formulation and write reports when required
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic, psychoeducational or support groups.
  • Knowledge of available AOD and Mental Health services in the community and ability to build networks with government and non-government health and welfare service providers to pursue practical strategies to improve service delivery to consumers
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity and inclusion, access and equity, social justice, and cultural sensitivity in relation to best practice
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • Competent in using Office 365 products
  • Current ‘C’ class driver’s license
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Desirable

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate
  • A reliable vehicle may be required
