Aruma is seeking a dedicated and passionate Key Worker/Educator (hours negotiable) who will utilise their skills and knowledge to provide flexible family centred services to children and adults with a disability and their families.

What success looks like…

  • Contribute to the development of children's individual education planning within a family centred practice framework
  • Work in a trans-disciplinary model with a range of allied health professionals and educators to provide a holistic and integrated approach to supports and learning
  • Provide educational advice and guidance to individuals, families and the transdisciplinary team
  • Complete assessment of children's abilities and functioning as required
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with government and non-government service providers for ongoing support

A day in the life of an Educator / Key Worker…

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate educational programs for individuals and small groups that are developmentally appropriate and strengths based
  • Work directly with families to plan and deliver services that promote learning opportunities within everyday routines or activities
  • Work together with Therapists and other Key Workers in complex case management
  • Independently apply advanced reasoning skills
  • Employ the principals of evidence based practice to all service delivery
  • Provide support which reflects the Disability Services Standards, Child Protection and other relevant legislative requirements and report any potential breaches to Aruma management
  • Follow, contribute and work in a culture committed to continuous improvement of the Aruma work environment
  • Follow and implement Work Health & Safety guidelines and instructions.
  • Undertake administrative tasks necessary for the role including maintaining appropriate documentation and systems to safeguard the wellbeing of the children supported
  • Work positively and collaboratively as a member of a transdisciplinary team and respect team values and participate in learning and development opportunities
  • Supervise and train assistants, students and less experienced staff when assigned, ensuring the maintenance of professional, ethical and WHS standards

What you need to be successful in this role…

  • Recognised degree relevant to field i.e. education
  • Eligibility for membership or current registration with relevant professional association
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively and effectively with the local Aboriginal community
  • Experience working with children with a disability/developmental delay and their families
  • Willingness to receive cultural supervision in your work with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and to cultivate a strength based approach
  • Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • High level time management and case load management skills
  • An ability to use electronic case management and reporting tools and experience using Word and Excel
  • An ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Excellent documentation and record keeping skills
