The Safety Advisor will focus on supporting staff to be compliant with legislative WH&S requirements whilst also fostering a safe practices culture for all workers in the workplace. This role reports to the Safety Lead and collaborates with team leaders and management of our businesses operating from Northern NSW and QLD. This role provides advice and coaching to help supported employees achieve their employment goals safely.

About the role

  • Works collaboratively with line management, sharing expertise to assist supported employees to develop skills and achieve their employment goals safely.
  • Work with line managers to identify the needs for and track training in 'WHS Subjects'.
  • Assists local management to negotiate or resolve conflicts regarding work tasks escalating to relevant management if required and maintains appropriate file notes to monitor agreed actions.
  • Models safe work practices, including use of personal protective equipment and relevant infectious disease protocols, coaching all team members to utilise equipment and observe all protocols appropriately.
  • Mentors new team leaders to supervise Supported Employees. Coaches on how to utilise new technology and databases such as Scout and Periscope.
  • Assists management to manage diverse employees with complex needs and implement behavioural management plans to get the best results.
  • Consults with the Safety Lead, operational management, and Field Operations to implement WH&S actions to meet Legislative requirements.
  • Develops safe working procedures, SWMS and SOP's for safe use of plant and equipment.
  • Engages with managers and their teams to identify any hazards and follows up on controls through consultation with the key stakeholders
  • Assists Quality, Systems and Accreditation Coordinator with internal reviews and inspections.
  • Coordinate effective toolbox communication and coaching regarding safety matters that impact local teams.

Must have Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to coach individuals or small groups
  • Able to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders with a hands-on approach
  • A commitment to problem-solving, pro-actively and reactively to safety and risk related matters arising in the workplace
  • Sound interpersonal skills with negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Sound time management and organisational skills
  • Sound computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to changing circumstances, with a customer-centric orientation.

Experience

  • Minimum Cert IV in Work Health & Safety or similar qualification
  • No experiences needed, training will be provided, must hold valid qualifications
