About Aspect Employment: 

Aspect Employment offers guidance to assist people on the autism spectrum to move into the world of work with confidence. Our Employment Mentors are experienced and well-trained in offering autism-specific employment support, so we understand individuals’ unique strengths and the barriers faced when making the transition into employment.

About the role: 

Using your experience working with individuals with disabilities, you will provide meaningful employment support to people on the autism spectrum. This will include assisting participants with the identification of their employment goals, developing and implementing action plans and develop skills and confidence to gain and maintain meaningful employment. You will meet participants in the community, at times use our sites in Heatherton, Northcote and also working from home, using teleconferencing.  You will work with employers to raise awareness of the positive contribution people on the autism spectrum can make to the workplace and build strong connections within the community to create opportunities for people on the autism spectrum.  Key responsibilities:

  • Promote positive understanding of autism 
  • Build and maintain trustworthy, consistent and positive relationships with participants
  • Coordinate meetings with participants on a regular schedule that fuflils each participant’s individual plan requirements
  • Proactively support and communicate with participants between sessions
  • Actively apply strengths-based strategies to help participants prepare for and find meaningful employment
  • Build and maintain trustworthy, consistent and positive relationships with participants
  • Maintain communication between participant, Aspect Employment Manager, parents, health professionals and other interested parties
  • Update and maintain documentation and records on Salesforce database as required to enable superior program delivery
  • Support growth the service by raising awareness of the program, tapping into the community and networking with different organisations and employers
  • Nurture current relationships with stakeholders to ensure targets/requirements are met

Skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of autism, experience working with participants with disabilities
  • Proven ability to build rapport and maintain effective relationships with people with a disability towards meeting their goals (whether related to employment, community participation, or independent living skills)
  • Confidence to work independently with an allocated case load, collaborating with your broader team and manager on more complex matters
  • Ability to manage time and workloads effectively
  • Ability to identify and provide solutions to meet the needs of job seekers in overcoming barriers to employment
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Driver’s License valid in Australia and use of own vehicle for business purposes 
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check clearance for paid employment
  • Current NSW Working With Children Check for paid employment 

Highly regarded:

  • Tertiary qualification in Welfare, Social Science, Disability Studies or similar
  • Certificate IV Employment Services highly regarded 
  • Proven ability to build rapport and maintain effective relationships with job seekers towards gaining and maintaining sustainable employment opportunities

Completion of the mandatory NDIS Worker Orientation Module ‘Quality, Safety and You’ is also required. If you have not already completed the module, click here to access it. You may be required to provide an International Police Check clearance.

As a Public Benevolent Institution (PBI), Aspect employees receive tax-effective salary packaging opportunities including $15,899 each year tax free. These roles are covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) and are classified at Level 2 pay point 1, depending on qualifications and experience with a pay rate starting at $29.12 per hour.
