People seeking asylum are at the heart of our purpose. We work with people seeking asylum so they have the support they need to make their own life in Australia while waiting for their claim for protection to be recognised.
We rely on philanthropic donations and fundraising, some state government support, a dedicated team of professional staff and a network of hundreds of volunteers to undertake our work.
The successful candidate will join a supported, motivated, energetic and compassionate team who work together to deliver vital services, engage our community and influence policy and legal change for people seeking asylum.
We are looking for an experienced community connector to work directly with people seeking asylum and help coordinate participation in social, recreational and educational activities. This is a full-time role on an initial 12 month contract, with the view to extend.
Reporting to the Community Engagement Manager, this role will work closely with the Community Engagement team of staff and volunteers to identify, connect and facilitate social activities at Newtown, Auburn and in the broader community.
The Community Participation Coordinator will work collaboratively across ASC teams and the wider community, linking people to community-based supports and turning stakeholder connections into tangible outcomes for people seeking asylum in Sydney.
The ideal person for this role will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in working with people from diverse backgrounds. You will be experienced in directly supporting and engaging with people with complex needs, and a strong understanding of fostering good mental health and wellbeing.
You will have demonstrable experience in excellent stakeholder management and in developing or implementing community based projects. You work with a trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and strengths-based approach. You are flexible, adaptive, and use creativity to problem solve complex situations.
Please contact Andrea Watkins via [email protected] using the subject line: Community Participation Coordinator enquiry via EthicalJobs for any enquiries.
To apply, please upload your resume and cover letter, including an overview of how you meet the selection criteria. Please apply as soon as possible, applications will be assessed as received.
