Published 4 times a year, Renew is the nation's premier magazine devoted to practical, cost-effective technologies for environmentally sustainable homes and lifestyles.
The main responsibilities of the role are the editorial oversight and practical delivery of the print magazine. This includes editorial leadership and commissioning, editing and producing the magazine and working with colleagues to promote and disseminate the content across multiple channels. Renew is both a stand-alone magazine and a key foundation of Renew’s impact on households and the sustainability sector.

The role also manages the Technical Editor, Renew and involves working closely with the Managing Editor - Sanctuary Magazine in the alignment and complementarity of each magazine’s voice. The role is part-time and flexible working conditions apply. We are interested in both early-career and experienced applicants.

Directly and in conjunction with the Technical Editor, Renew your role is to:

• Develop and implement editorial strategy for the magazine that is both commercially astute and effective in furthering Renew’s overall goals
• Lead long-term planning and strategic development of Renew to ensure its continued profitability and growing reach
• Increase the online presence of Renew magazine
• Commission, brief and oversee designers, freelancers and photographers
• Write, edit and proof content
• Layout and design of each publication, in line with established templates
• Actively manage publication budgets

With colleagues across the organisation:

• Contribute to the alignment of Renew’s communications, products and events to advance Renew’s strategy and digital presence
• Work with staff and our network of partners, Branches and members to source information and shape overall output
• Work with colleagues to develop and implement communication and marketing plans to develop greater reach and profitability
• Work with Advertising Manager to maintain and grow both print and online advertising sales and ensuring advertising targets are met
• Work with the Technical Editor to ensure continued engineering and practical accuracy in Renew’s content and presentation
• Liaise with clients and relevant industry contacts as the public face of the magazine, giving talks, presentations and interviews as required
• Other duties as directed

Essential:

• Demonstrable track record of articulating and delivering an editorial vision
• Demonstrable experience in print publication production including editing and writing
• Demonstrable experience digital publication production including publishing via WordPress
• High level of computer literacy including experience with the Adobe Suite
• Excellent organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, in a consultative and inclusive manner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:

• Sustainability knowledge and networks across building design and engineering, energy
  and policy
• Knowledge of and commitment to environmental principles and concepts
• Experience with social media, digital engagement and/or content marketing
• Experience in graphic design
