WHO IS ADN?

The Australian Democracy Network (ADN) is working for a healthy Australian democracy that puts people and the planet first. We bring people and organisations together to share resources and strategies so that we can have a greater impact on the issues that affect us all. We convene a diverse group of social change makers who focus on a wide range of issues – but we all know we need a healthy democracy to win the progress we seek, and we know we need to work together to be powerful enough to change the system.

We face enormous challenges: the climate and extinction crises, an inequitable economy that traps people in cycles of poverty and disadvantage, struggling health and education systems, and justice for First Nations people and refugees.

The big decisions which shape our future on all these issues are negotiated through our democratic process. If that process is broken, we will all get bad outcomes. To make progress, we need a healthy democracy capable of delivering the change we seek. A healthy democracy is a precondition to creating the future we want.

Our work focuses on the key objectives of promoting and protecting a robust civil society, including the right to advocate and protest. We campaign for reforms which make our political system more fair and representative, including to reduce the undue influence of big corporate money on our political system, so that public power is always exercised for the public good.

THE ROLE

This role is a key part of the #OurDemocracy campaign, working with a team from both Australian Democracy Network and our campaign partners. As our campaign coordinator, you will be our partners’ first point of contact for the campaign. You will ensure that we have a consensus on key decisions, organise and chair events and meetings, and find creative ways for our diverse partners to contribute to our shared campaign. You will also work with our Media and Communications Strategist to get #OurDemocracy stories in the news and with the ADN Engagement Coordinator to coordinate our people-powered tactics and the work of our organisational partners. It will be an engaging, fast-moving role for a campaigner with solid strategic, relational and communications skills.

ABOUT YOU

You are organised and excellent at organising others. Relational skills and groupwork are your strong suit - finding your way to consensus and managing differences among a diverse group is a challenge you can meet. You have a flexible approach to things: the challenges and opportunities of working in a small organisation and the need to adapt plans to suit changing circumstances will be a feature of the job, not a bug. You are a leader, but not the type who must always be at the front. You’re an experienced and skilful campaigner looking to learn and grow your change-making skills. You are a caring colleague who will work well in our close collaborative team.

WHY WORK FOR US?

You will join a small, growing and committed team doing groundbreaking work in tackling the problems holding back Australian democracy and helping create the solutions to these problems.

ADN is proud to offer our staff a supportive workplace with excellent conditions, including:

  • Genuine flexibility in working hours and location
  • Four weeks of annual leave a year plus an additional three days off over the Christmas / New Year period
  • Thirty days of personal leave a year (pro-rata) available to use immediately upon commencement
  • Superannuation contribution of 11%
  • Access to Long Service Leave after five years of continuous service
  • Eighteen weeks paid parental leave for parents (regardless of who is the birth parent) after 12 months of service
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities tailored to your individual career goals
  • Regular team and whole organisation get togethers so we can plan, learn and grow together
  • Access to wellbeing support

ADN is committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants. We actively encourage First Nations people, people from CALD backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ people, people with disability and others who have diverse experiences of our world to apply for this opportunity.
