About the roles

Assist newly arrived individuals, groups and communities of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (especially those from refugee backgrounds), to better understand and independently access service providers of the Tasmanian health system.

This position will focus on working with the Oromo community in Hobart. Prior experience working with the Oromo community would be highly regarded and knowledge of Oromo language is essential.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting culturally and linguistically diverse newly arrived communities, especially those with a refugee background
  • Ability to assist with planning and coordinating information or training sessions
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of health issues (including harmful traditional practices such as Female Genital Mutilation) that affect new arrivals and their connection to the Tasmanian health system
  • Drivers licence
  • Working with vulnerable people check
