Outline & Purpose of Role

Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian Donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network, it has now raised more than $330 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

We are looking for a motivated, resourceful and experienced Events & Community Fundraising Manager, with a passion for the work we do, to fill a 12 month parental leave position. This role is responsible for leading the design and delivery of our events and community fundraising to build engagement with donors, partners and supporters and to generate awareness and fundraising in line with our organisational strategy and targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the event and community fundraising strategy to maximise participant growth and revenue.
  • In collaboration with your Manager, produce the events and community fundraising annual plans and budgets, which you will manage and report on.
  • Provide leadership to the Community Fundraising & Events Coordinator, monitor performance and provide feedback. Initiate regular 121s and conduct annual review.
  • Manage all aspects of event coordination, including briefing and working with internal & external stakeholders and teams, to ensure success of the events.
  • Develop and execute end-to end event marketing plans for the organisation’s events (digital, in-person and hybrid).
  • Explore new and innovative ways to increase interest in events and community fundraising, and expand mass-participation events, and develop and evolve plans to achieve targets and maximise growth opportunities.
  • Work with the Communications and Content teams to create PR and media interest around signature events, and produce event promotion eDMs and coordinate all internal sign-offs, ensuring event information and promotion is maintained and updated across all channels.
  • Ensure stewardship of all events participants, with assistance from the team, and work with volunteers to support all community fundraising and events throughout the year
  • Attend community fundraising events both in NSW and interstate, as required.
  • Work with the Community Fundraising & Events Coordinator to project-manage third-party community fundraising events
  • Communicate regularly with all appropriate community-based organisations regarding events and community fundraising activities.
  • Give talks and presentations to local organisations i.e. schools, rotary clubs, community organisations, etc. to increase awareness of and support for Australia for UNHCR activities.

The successful application will possess the following attributes:

Essential

  • Proven track record in event management (minimum 5 years), both physical and online, including the ability to design and deliver events that are highly profitable and engaging.
  • Previous community fundraising and project management experience
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including strong public speaking skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage financial records, to work within budget and provide necessary reports.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to multi-task, work autonomously and use your initiative.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within not-for-profit sector would be advantageous.
  • Experience in database management (ideally Raisers Edge).
  • Tertiary qualifications in Event Management, Marketing or Communications.
  • Experience with Raisley, Humanitix, Photoshop, Salesforce.
