About the Role

Autism Queensland's P-12 independent school is seeking an experienced Primary School Teacher for the remainder of Term 2. This position is based at our Sunnybank school campus and will be offered on the basis of a 7 day fortnight (Teaching days: Monday to Wednesday and alternate Thursdays for School Outreach visits) and will be teaching a Year 2/3 class. All of our classes have a maximum of 6 students and are supported by a Teacher Aide and Therapy team.  

Responsibilities and Experience

  • Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, deliver and review personalised support plans as appropriate for individual students
  • Plan, prepare and deliver quality, individualised and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, and relevant syllabi, curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends
  • Monitor each child’s progress through observation, data collection and information exchange with parents, internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with relevant stakeholders including parents and carers
  • Maintain accurate records of all communication regarding student needs and programs including preparing detailed and regular student reports
  • Visit the shared enrolment setting as relevant of each student to observe, collaborate and support a consistent approach in both settings
  • Supervise class Teacher Aide(s) allocating appropriate tasks relating to the teaching and learning program
  • Playground duty as timetabled 

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education and/or Special Education
  • Current registration with the Queensland College of Teachers
  • Demonstrated experience with school aged children on the autism spectrum and/or with special needs
  • Proven knowledge and application of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers
  • Demonstrated understanding of current principles and practices for supporting students with diverse learning needs across a range of environments
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, professionals and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing

Highly-regarded

  • Post-graduate qualifications in Special Education
  • Experience with supporting students who exhibit behaviours of concern
