About the assignment

We’re looking for a General Anaesthetist who can live and volunteer in Vanuatu for 4 to 6 months or more. Join the Australian Volunteers Program to contribute to sustainable development across the South Pacific region. 

About the Partner Organisation: 

The hospital has 156 specialist beds on the medical, surgical, paediatric, gynaecology, maternity, ICU and NICU wards providing specialist clinics including:

  • Specialist clinic services in emergency medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, ENT, oral surgery, and general dental services.
  • Clinics in ENT, NCD and general outpatients.
  • Physiotherapy, pathology, and medical imaging services.
  • Training site for medical interns for major hospital and rural attachments
  • Intensive Care Unit
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

This assignment will develop standard operating procedures and protocols for the Anaesthetic department as required and provide ongoing training and mentoring support to local anaesthetists and related hospital personnel.

About the Position: 

  • You’ll be strengthening the capacity of the anaesthetic team to support the hospital theatres through staff training and reviewing protocols and processes.
  • You’ll need to have qualifications and work experience in medicine, incorporating a specialisation in anaesthesiology.
  • You’ll gain experience working in a cross cultural environment and gain international development exposure.
