We’re looking for a Senior Veterinarian Mentor who can live and volunteer for 9 months in the Solomon Islands.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) is a key government ministry responsible for formulating, executing, monitoring and coordinating the Solomon Islands Government's (SIG) agricultural policies. Their mission is to promote, improve and lead agricultural development in the Solomon Islands to a profitable and environmentally sustainable future by being the premier provider of information, research, extensions, education, regulations, and other services to improve the agriculture sector.
The volunteer assignment is crucial for the future of agricultural development in Solomon Islands. The absence of a qualified vet in the Ministry impedes agricultural development and the capacity development of livestock and quarantine officers and limits the quality of training and advice provided by extension and information officers for smallholder farmers. This role is very important to ensure continued support and capacity development of staff of the Livestock department.
The Australian Volunteers Program is an Australian government-funded initiative. We support partner organisations across the Pacific, Asia, and Africa to achieve locally led change.
Volunteers are supported throughout their volunteer journey. We actively support and encourage people of all backgrounds and abilities to volunteer and aim to make the program as accessible and inclusive as possible. If you have accessibility requirements, please contact us to discuss how we can support you to volunteer with us - [email protected].
