Position Overview

We are offering a rare and exciting opportunity to join our passionate team as an Industrial Organiser. This role is based at the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme, one of the largest and most significant national projects in Australia. As part of the AWU NSW Branch, you'll play a pivotal role in representing, organising, and empowering AWU members in this vital region.

Key Responsibilities

As an Industrial Organiser, you will:

  • Recruit new members and provide essential support to our existing AWU members.
  • Develop and execute strategic organising plans.
  • Negotiate with local management to secure strong outcomes for AWU members, including enterprise agreements.
  • Engage with members through organising conversations, driving action, and upholding union values.
  • Identify, mentor, and empower workplace delegates.
  • Address member grievances and inquiries effectively.
  • Lead and contribute to workplace campaigns.
  • Work closely with WHS Delegates to maintain and improve workplace safety standards.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking an experienced and driven individual who meets the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Proven experience in union organising, campaign management, or member engagement within the Union or Not-for-Profit sectors.
  • A solid understanding of WHS legislation and the Fair Work Act.
  • A proactive attitude, with the ability to generate ideas and work effectively within a team.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and CRM databases.
  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
  • Compliance with the Federal Right of Entry Permit process, including a clean criminal record.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in enterprise bargaining and negotiations.
  • A strong commitment to advocating for workers' rights and values.
