The Role

This role is an excellent opportunity for people with experience at the forefront of union education, organising, workplace health and safety or provision of industrial advice and strategy. If you have experience implementing new strategies to build union density and activism in one of the above fields, you are encouraged to apply. 

The role is Fixed term 12-month role (with possibility for ongoing employment) with The Australian Workers’ Union National office, defending and advancing workplace health and safety and general workers’ rights.  

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and sharing of cutting-edge resources within the union
  • Work with Branches on education and development, capacity building and change
  • Develop and deliver high quality and well attended education programs that contribute to the union’s growth and improvement in work, health, and safety across AWU industries
  • Understand and meet the needs of adult learners
  • Undertake assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes
  • Maintain and develop high professional standards and up-to-date expertise
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Australian trade union movement, its values, policies, programs, and organisational structures

Mandatory skills and qualifications

  • Demonstrated high-level capacity in one of the fields of industrial, organising or work health and safety
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate informal or formal training.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to be proactive and show initiative
  • Commitment and ability to provide feedback in an adult learning environment and a demonstrated ability to motivate others
  • Certificate IV in training and Assessment 

Desirable

  • Policy or submission writing experience  
  • Organiser training and development experience 

Note - Interstate travel is a requirement of the position.
