Ballarat Health Services is seeking an experienced, innovative and driven Operations Director, Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA) Service.

Ballarat CASA is the regional Centre Against Sexual Assault Service for the Central Highlands region in the Western Division of Victoria.

Ballarat CASA provides specialist counselling, advocacy and support for people who have experienced sexual assault. As well as advocacy, secondary consultation, training for professionals, groupwork and community education and prevention. Therapeutic Treatment Services are also provided to children under 10 with problem sexual behaviours and young people between 10 and 18 with harmful sexual behaviours. Ballarat CASA works towards the elimination of sexual assault by increasing community awareness and knowledge and challenging the myths surrounding sexual assault.

The Director provides leadership to the CASA staff and service within a feminist, social justice framework in accordance with the Ballarat CASA and Sexual Assault Services Victoria (SASVic inc) philosophy. As a member of SASVic, inc the Director seeks to inform government policy and practices and advocate for reform to the legal system relevant to the needs of the victim survivor.

This position provides operational support and leadership to the CASA team, ensuring close liaison with relevant funding bodies and requires an understanding of the auspice relationships with Ballarat Health Services, the Department of Health and the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, their relevant guidelines and obligations of delivery and financial accountability.

Primary responsibilities involve the monitoring of resource requirements, allocation of funding for specific programs, responsibility for program accountability, achieving agreed key performance indicators and an oversight of recruitment, training, supervision / mentorship, as well as responsibility for the competencies of staff and creating an environment in which all team members are committed to a high standard of equitable and accessible care from a trauma informed perspective.

Key Selection Criteria

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Social Worker and membership in the AASW or equivalent discipline and membership relevant to the role of the Director of a CASA
  • Experience as a Director in health industry management or equivalent and a proven track record of leading high performance teams and driving a culture of success
  • Experience in developing, leading and managing strategic and change projects to a successful outcome.
  • Qualifications at Masters level in relevant field and/or business management or a desire to work towards the same.

Technical/Professional Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of leading-edge feminist practice in sexual assault, family violence and harmful sexual behaviours.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Social Work Code of Ethics and competency standards, including accreditation and record keeping standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current issues facing the sexual assault, harmful sexual behaviours and violence against women field.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and understanding the complex nature of the work: the complexities of working with people affected by sexual assault and exhibiting harmful sexual behaviours and managing a team focussed on supporting clients impacted by trauma.
  • Demonstrated leadership and staff management skills including identifying priority areas of service and coordinating community education and social action programs. Experience in leading, supervising, and providing support to professional staff.

Working Environment

  • Work on site at Centre Against Sexual Assault with the ability to work remotely if required
