Role Purpose

Baptcare has a strong commitment to engagement with vulnerable parents of pre-school aged children through individual mentoring services and group- based activities. Home-Start is an evidence-based early- intervention mentoring program that offers vital face-to-face and virtual support to vulnerable parents of preschool aged children.

The program aims to reduce isolation for families and building support networks for parents and their children within their local communities. Volunteer Mentors provide vital support to young families (with at least one child of pre-school age either virtually or face to face through emotional encouragement as well as guidance and information around parenting to build community connection and facilitate skill development.

The Home- Start Co-ordinator's role is to recruit, support, coordinate and guide the volunteer Mentors within the FACS VIC Home-Start program. The role reports directly to the Senior Practitioner- Integrated Family Services/ SafeCare and indirectly to the Children and Family Services Manager and the FACS VIC Operations Manager.

Essential skills

  • Excellent skills in people management including coordination, supervision, and mentorship.
  • Sound stakeholder management and the ability to build and maintain strong, credible relationships with internal programs, local movements and networks, government associations, business leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work autonomously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, persuasion, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to meet a changing environment and needs of staff, carer and/or client group while maintaining focus on delivery outcomes.
  • Wholeheartedly aligned with Baptcare's Mission, Vision and Values.

Knowledge

  • Demonstrated understanding of working with vulnerable children and families with complex issues.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within a business to government environment.
  • Demonstrated level of self-awareness, resilience, and the ability to manage multiple demands and prioritise accordingly.
  • Strong computer and data base management skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Health Promotion, Psychology, or another relevant Human Services area
