ORGANISATION OVERVIEW

Barengi Gadjin Land Council (BGLC) represents Traditional Owners from the Wotjobaluk, Jaadwa, Jadawadjali, Wergaia and Jupagulk peoples, who were recognised in a 2005 Native Title Consent Determination, the first in south-eastern Australia.

BGLC is the Federally recognised authority to speak on behalf of the Wotjobaluk peoples. We are also the only body in the region with the legislative authority to make legal decisions about cultural heritage.

We are the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Wotjobaluk claim area, as outlined in the Native Title Act, giving us legal authority and obligation to work on behalf of Traditional Owners.

THE ROLE

The BGLC Water Officer will work on local projects and programs to contribute to environmental outcomes and benefits for the local Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners knowledge of Country into government processes and policy in relation to water management.

The Office will support BGLC & Wotjobaluk Traditional Owner involvement and engagement with communities, Water Corporations, Catchment Authorities and the Department on water-related matters.

The 12-month contract will report to the Natural Resource Manager & On Country - General Manager.
