About the graduate opportunity

The Rural and Regional Family Violence Social Work Graduate Program provides a meaningful, challenging and rewarding graduate year for new and recent graduates.

The program will recruit over 50 new or recent graduates with social work (or similar) qualifications to work in a range of family violence roles across regional Victoria. Graduate roles include victim support, perpetrator, sexual assault and Aboriginal family violence services.

The Program will support graduates as they transition into the family violence sector through:

  • monthly half-day Communities of Practice sessions, focusing on contemporary family violence issues and practice
  • additional support including training and professional development opportunities and health, safety and wellbeing supports
  • a reduced caseload to allow time to attend training, professional development, supervision, and mentoring.

These positions are for 12 months, with funding available to contribute towards any moving costs.

About The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre

Providing specialist sexual assault and family violence programs and services, including 24 hour crisis care support, case management, therapeutic counselling, early intervention and professional education and training, we continue to grow and develop our offerings.

About The Role

This role is based in Geelong, however you will initially commence working a combination of working remotely from home and in the office due to coronavirus (COVID-19). You must have a confidential space within your home and reliable internet connection to work remotely.

This graduate position provides accurate information, advocacy, support, referral and resources to women and children who are experiencing or have experienced family violence. Case Management includes always monitoring a client’s risk and safety, while also addressing other support needs identified with the client.

The position reports to the Specialist Family Violence Team Leader and is supported by a team of highly skilled and qualified practitioners. Regular professional supervision, valuable peer and organisational support as well as training and professional development are provided.

About You

With a Bachelor qualification in social work, psychology or other relevant disciplines, you will have a conceptual understanding of the assessment of risk in relation to family violence and provision of crisis intervention and casework with women and children from diverse backgrounds who have experienced family violence.
