ABOUT BONDI BEACH COTTAGE (BBC)

BBC is a small, community based not-for-profit organisation located in North Bondi. As well as providing occasional childcare for local families, we provide specialist counselling to women affected by domestic and family violence.

BBC has an established clinical model that informs the trauma informed and trauma specialist services provided by our counsellors.

Our quality assurance process includes a professional development program, regular clinical supervision and vicarious trauma management program to support counselling work.

Resourcing women through collaborative casework/case management activities is an integral part of this role. Modalities may include face to face, telephone and on-line counselling.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary Qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or other relevant discipline;
  • Full or provisional membership with relevant professional body;
  • 2 years counselling experience (qualified practitioners with over 2yrs DFV specialist casework experience will also be considered);
  • Willingness to work within the clinical model and practice in a trauma informed and trauma specialist methodology including providing casework for socially just outcomes;
  • Commitment to feminist, client-centred and anti-oppressive practice;
  • Ability to identify and respond to intersectional social injustices and complex presentations and incorporate into counselling and resourcing;
  • Deep understanding of causes and consequences of sexual assault, family and domestic violence;
  • Willingness to work as a team and assist with other tasks associated with running a small community-based NFP including sector development activities, advocacy, community development activities as negotiated with the coordinator;
  • Willingness to work with a high level of professionalism, collegiality and ethical behaviour;
  • Commitment to supervision in accordance with the clinical model;
  • Willingness to work responsibly in a role that includes high levels of exposure to traumatic content including capacity to commit to self-care;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of systems and structures related to the DFSV sector including: policing, legal, welfare, housing, immigration, health, child protection systems;
  • Knowledge of resources and supports available to women seeking social justice;
  • Ability to use CIMS and DEX reporting platforms.
  • Experience in delivering trauma informed and trauma specialist counselling
