About the Role:

The Planned Giving Officer plays a key role to implement and grow Black Dog Institute’s Gift-in-will program and overall growth in the Funding & Partnerships directorate. The role is integral in supporting the Philanthropy and Development team in the nurturing of close relationships with existing and prospective bequestors, called Luminaries, and high-value donors. A key component of the position is to undertake thorough onboarding of Luminary supporters and assist in growing the pipeline of gift in will supporters of the Institute. Additionally, the Planned Giving Officer will be responsible for the coordination of events and the production of communications materials for our donors to build stronger relationships with Luminaries. The position provides high levels of support to the Planned Giving Manager and the Philanthropy and Development team, toward securing long-term income growth through planned giving.

Key Duties:

  • Support the Planned Giving Manager with onboarding and stewardship of Luminaries and building new relationships based on mutual respect and sensitivity to the donor’s needs and interests
  • Respond to phone and email bequest enquiries and action promptly with a personalised follow-up plan for all enquirers and intenders
  • Ensure the yearly activity schedule is delivered with a personalised experience, and accurate records are maintained for all donors
  • Implement bequest fulfilment through prospecting channels such as the donor survey and direct marketing appeals
  • Assist with estate administration and liaise with Solicitors and Will Executors as required
  • Assist in the delivery of a multi-channelled communication plan liaising with external agencies, BDI marketing team and Supporter Engagement team
  • Source compelling case studies to showcase BDI’s bequest program and the case for support
  • Coordinate the Luminaries bi-monthly communications by liaising with the Supporter Engagement team and assist the Planned Giving Manager with the development of the bi-annual Luminary Newsletter.
  • Work with the Fundraising and Supporter Engagement teams to implement gifts-in-will fulfilment through prospecting channels like the donor survey and direct marketing appeals
  • Support the Planned Giving Manager in organising the annual schedule of Luminary events and liaising with suppliers
  • Review daily the fundraising report to allocate donations to the Philanthropy and Development team
  • Assist the Philanthropy team in uploading, extracting data, and donation receipting following the Directorate business rules for donations and for planning communications, appeals, events and other campaigns
  • Build fundraising knowledge to ensure best practice delivery of planned giving programs through attendance at conferences and reading

About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

Essential Criteria

  • 2-3 years’ experience in fundraising, business to business marketing, marketing agency and/or sales with experience in event and campaign management
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship skills, with a warm manner, high degree of empathy and willingness to talk about and solicit legacy gifts from individuals
  • Ability to work within a team with consideration and respect, and equally able and ready to use own initiative
  • Ability to communicate effectively and engage with a target audience
  • Keen eye for detail and accuracy, coupled with strong administrative skills
  • Creative problem solver and can-do attitude toward finding solutions with a high degree of accountability and self-motivation
  • Demonstrated high computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and CRM experience
  • Alignment to mental health and wellbeing and genuine commitment to a career in non-profit sector

Desirable Criteria

  1. Technical college, university degree, or other relevant qualifications in marketing/business and/or some experience in a related role.
  2. Blackbaud NXT and Raisers Edge knowledge
