About the Role:

This Lived Experience Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Research and Policy Officer and Postdoctoral Research Fellow on conducting a scoping review commissioned by the Wellcome Trust. The review will examine the effectiveness of omega-3 supplements on symptoms of depression and/or anxiety in young people.

This position holder will use their lived experience and research skills to help to develop a search strategy, conduct searches, screen articles, extract data and synthesise findings.

Key Duties:

  • Conduct literature review, including scoping review.
  • Provide support for the planning and preparation of manuscripts and presentations, data management and analysis.
  • Provide support for the planning and preparation of workshops with stakeholder groups, including young people with lived experience of depression and/or anxiety, parents of young people with depression and/or anxiety and health professionals.
  • Assist with the preparation and dissemination of research material, including a report, video and infographic.
  • Complete all administrative and clerical duties, including attendance at research meetings, as required.
  • Contribute to the written reports, journal articles, and manuscripts as required.
  • Assist in developing presentations for conferences.

About You:

The successful candidate will have the following:

Essential Criteria

  1. Had/have a lived experience of anxiety and/or depression during ages of 14-24.
  2. A tertiary degree with honours in psychology, public health, public policy, social science, or a related discipline
  3. Experience undertaking literature searches and reviews, and synthesis of academic research literature, reports, and other material
  4. Experience in data collection and analysis, including use of statistical software (e.g., SPSS or SAS)
  5. Highly advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a strong demonstrated capability of writing for diverse range of audiences including writing research reports and manuscripts
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and build positive relationships
  7. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, and the capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  8. Knowledge of equal opportunity principles
  9. Knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant OHS training

Desirable Criteria

  1. Working towards a Postgraduate qualification in psychology, public health, public policy, social science, or a related discipline
  2. Record of publication and impact in relevant area
  3. Experience in a research translation setting, preferably in mental health or public health
