About Newtown Neighbourhood Centre

Newtown Neighbourhood Centre (NNC) is a not-for-profit organisation working across the inner western suburbs of Sydney since 1977. NNC works with the whole community, with a particular focus on those experiencing homelessness and social isolation. In all that we do, NNC is committed to justice, inclusion, action and fun. NNC delivers:

  • a DCJ funded Specialist Homelessness Service for people who are at risk of homelessness and social isolation, particularly those who are living in Boarding Houses and those who are rough sleeping and has engaged and trained community members in a voluntary capacity who connect with people sleeping rough.
  • Commonwealth Home Support Program funded social support programs for individuals and groups who are ageing and socially isolated with a focus on multicultural CALD communities
  • a small DCJ funded Targeted Early Intervention program for children and families with a particular focus on local social housing residents.

NNC also champions the unique creative ‘Newtown vibe’ and has hosted an array of social and cultural events (including the Newtown Festival). NNC currently has an annual fundraiser – Newtopian Sleepout – in addition to a small pool of regular donors and local business supporters. The core programs are supported, and in some instances delivered by a trained group of active volunteers.
