About Australia for UNHCR and purpose of the role

Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network, it has now raised more than $340 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

We are looking for an experienced, passionate and resourceful Events & Community Fundraising Manager to join their team for a 12-month parental leave position. This role will lead the design and delivery of the fundraising and organisational events and oversee the community fundraising activities to strengthen engagement with donors, partners and supporters to generate awareness and fundraising in line with organisational strategy and targets.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the event and community fundraising strategy to maximise revenue and explore new pathways to grow the portfolio with new initiatives, including annual plans and budgets
  • Lead on the planning and delivery of organisational events including advocacy and stakeholder updates, and others as required
  • Manage the Community Fundraising & Events Coordinator, providing leadership and feedback to ensure financial and performance targets are met
  • Manage all aspects of event management including briefing and working with internal & external stakeholders and teams, table and sponsorship sales, stewardship of event participants, end to end marketing plans (digital, in person and hybrid), volunteer management, etc
  • Work with the Communications and Content teams to create PR and media interest around events, produce event promotion eDMs, and promoting across all channels
  • Attend community fundraising events both in NSW and interstate, as required
  • Communicate regularly with all appropriate community-based organisations regarding events and community fundraising activities
  • Give presentations to local organisations (eg. schools, rotary clubs, community organisations, etc) to increase support for Australia for UNHCR activities

Skills and attributes:

  • Proven track record in the design and delivery events (in person and online) that are highly profitable and engaging
  • Previous line management and project management experience
  • Experience in managing event management platforms including digital platforms
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking experience
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • Demonstrated experience in managing financial records, within budget and reporting as required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Previous experience within not-for-profit sector would be advantageous
  • Tertiary qualifications in Event Management, Marketing or Communications
  • Passion to support the important work of Australia for UNHCR
