About the Organisation

Asthma Australia is a for-purpose, peak consumer organisation which has been improving the lives of people with asthma since 1962. Asthma is a serious health problem that affects one in nine Australians or 2.7 million people.

Our new strategic plan 2022 – 2024 is ready to launch. It builds on the innovative work we have been leading, and strengthens our focus on driving person centred approaches and influencing systems level change to improve the lives of people with asthma.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Government Relations Advisor to help us achieve our ambitions by working strategically to extend our influence across all levels of government, secure funding for critical initiatives, and drive policy change.

In this role you will get to:

  • Design and implement government funding advocacy strategy to secure, maintain and grow Asthma Australia’s funding revenue
  • Increase our influence at all levels of government, through the design and delivery of a government relations strategy across our key policy priority areas of air quality, climate change and housing
  • Identify key stakeholders and build strong relationships to increase our impact
  • Ensure Asthma Australia is on top of new policy opportunities in states and territories in line with our strategic policy priorities
  • Support the development of grant applications, policy position statements and submissions

We will expect you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, politics, communications or law
  • Previous experience working as a ministerial advisor, electorate officer or departmental liaison officer; in a similar role at a for-purpose organisation; or in a relevant government agency
  • Experience in securing or administering government funding
  • A strong understanding of government and political processes at federal, state and territory, and local levels
  • The ability to travel interstate on an occasional basis

Given the role will be required to attend Parliament from time-to-time, the successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of full vaccination against COVID-19, or an exemption, to Asthma Australia. This is also a requirement for a successful candidate in NSW and Victoria under to current health orders.
