The Australian Museum (AM) is looking for a dynamic Fundraiser with expertise in Major Gifts who will drive the success of the museum’s philanthropy portfolio. We are looking for a strategic thinker with the confidence and experience to tap into potential sources and build networks to raise significant funds for both ongoing projects and future capital campaign works from private sources with a focus on individual donors and Trusts & Foundations.

Role Summary

Responsible for the ongoing success and the continuous improvement to the program, this role works closely with the Foundation’s Trustees, the Executive Leadership Team, and key internal project leaders to secure funding for a variety of significant projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic development of the Major Gifts portfolio
  • Develop and implement new strategies across acquisition and retention of major donors through identification, cultivation and stewardship of prospects and donors
  • Deliver philanthropic revenue from Major Gifts to set annual targets
  • Source and raise significant funds from private sources to support the vision of the museum
  • Work in close consultation with major external and internal stakeholders to cultivate and steward major gift prospects, donors, and Trusts & Foundations
  • Work closely and collaborate with AM’s internal teams to identify projects requiring philanthropic support and develop proposals
  • Maintain clear and up to date records pertaining to major gift donors to the AM

Skills & Attributes

  • A strong background in Major Gifts with proven success in raising significant funds from private sources
  • Relevant experience in relationship management and working with high-value stakeholders
  • Experience developing and managing Major Gifts campaigns/strategies
  • Comprehensive senior experience in managing high value donor and supporter relationships
  • Proven track record in strategy building, developing donor relationships, and delivering revenue growth
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Confident, hands-on, self-motivated individual looking to make a significant direct impact on a Major Gifts portfolio
