About the National Breast Cancer Foundation

The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is the only national body that funds life-changing breast cancer research with money raised entirely by the Australian public. Breast cancer is the most common cancer facing Australian women, with eight women dying from the disease each day. Research is the only way to prevent deaths, and improve how breast cancer is diagnosed, managed and treated. By funding only world-class research, NBCF is working towards a goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.

More about the role

In this critical role, you will manage the research grants process, ensuring transparent and efficient operations so that community donations have the greatest possible impact. You will also:

  • Monitoring funded research projects through annual progress reports.
  • Work to assist internal stakeholders (such as the Marketing and Fundraising teams) with the understanding and dissemination of scientific concepts and trends in breast cancer research to a variety of audiences.
  • Establish, track and report on milestones, outputs and outcomes from grants disbursed and researchers funded
  • Work with the Director to ensure all NBCF research advocacy and research granting activities and their results are effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders
  • Help the Director and Research Team to identify opportunities to streamline and optimise grants processes, operations, and reporting, implementing new processes as required to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Grant administration support, assist with grants administrative duties as required, including onboarding and training of new team members across a variety of grants processes, and grants management platforms.

About you

You will enjoy working as part of a dynamic and interactive team, while being motivated to quickly find your feet and be able to independently manage the workload and projects. Open and transparent communication style is a must. You will also:

  • Hold a PhD and/or a Masters’ degree in cancer research or a related field, with a strong preference for experience in Breast Cancer Research.
  • Understand the medical research funding landscape and processes within Australia
  • Be highly organised with strong project management skills, able to successfully manage several projects, often with competing priorities.
  • Be an excellent verbal and written communicator, with the ability to translate and present complex research information in lay terms
  • Experience in grant administration/grant management is preferred
