The Opportunity

There is currently an opportunity to join the Multisystemic Therapy team in the South East as an MST Practitioner. The MST Practitioner will function as part of an MST team and will participate in weekly team supervision and consultation. Daily duties include assessment, treatment, and collaboration with families, youth, and community agency staff. 

We also have the opportunity for the successful applicant to be considered for a regular opportunity to act-up as the MST Clinical Supervisor on a monthly basis and to back-fill the role during times of leave. This provides an opportunity to be hands-on with clients and to draw on or continuing to develop your leadership skills by regularly acting as the Back-up MST Clinical Supervisor for the existing team.

About the MST Program

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) supports young people aged 10-17 years who are presenting with severe challenging behaviours, including offending. It is an:

  • Intensive and flexibly delivered;
  • Evidence-based and community-based intervention; and
  • Does what it takes to achieve meaningful change.

As an MST Practitioner, you will be able to work in ways that other program structures don’t allow. Interventions are intensive and target change across the systems in which the young person is engaged to achieve change and improve outcomes for the young people and their families. As Back-up supervisor, you will provide regular backup support to the team to manage safety and support plans and support the team to deliver interventions in line with the MST model. 

The team consists of one MST Clinical Supervisor and four Practitioners. 

About You

You will be an experienced practitioner with mental health clinical training to be extensively involved in implementing the MST program during a three year pilot project, with the goal of the program's success resulting in it being made ongoing.

You will have experience working with marginalised, minority and difficult to engage young people and/or their families in their homes and communities and must be available to provide periodic on-call 24-hour coverage, across a 7 day week roster. 

You will hold a minimum 4 year degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related subject area with significant experience in therapeutic settings, with specific experience in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Strategic Family Therapy and behaviourally-based treatments preferred.
