About the Program:

The NSW bushfire crisis has devastated our communities. Multiple lives have been lost, over 2,000 homes have been destroyed, and up to 5 million hectares of bushland has burnt since October 2019. Anglicare’s aim is to be able to support people who are experiencing trauma, and for their ongoing safety and wellbeing in those demanding and trying circumstances affected by the bushfire crisis. Communities have also been impacted by the ongoing impact of Covid-19.

About the role:

We are looking for a highly experienced child, young person and family counsellor to provide a range of therapeutic services within a trauma-informed framework. The position would suit a professional, collaborative team player who can also work independently and is willing to work flexibly across the Shoalhaven LGA, South Coast and other bushfire impacted communities via face to face and online service delivery. Ability to provide culturally sensitive counselling to Aboriginal children and families is an advantage. The role would suit someone who is willing to work flexibly, including some Saturdays and after hours to reach into impacted communities.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Ensure that counselling and other therapeutic support is directed at enhancing the clients’ capacity for achieving personal well-being and sustaining valued relationships, with focus on safety and well-being of children.
  • Ensure that the best possible outcome for clients is achieved by advocating for clients and establishing strong network links within local area in order to refer to relevant services.
  • Ensure that the service is known in the community by promoting the service to clients and participating in local forums and other community development activities as required.
  • Maintain appropriate client documentation and statistical information to ensure that documentation meets organisational, legislative and funding requirements.

Skills, knowledge and experience needed:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social work, Psychology or Counselling is essential.
  • Training and clinical experience in children, young person, family and relationship counselling.
  • Training and clinical experience in trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience and training in facilitating group work.
  • Experience in community development or other projects which support child and family well-being would be advantageous.
  • Preference experience in providing culturally sensitive counselling to Aboriginal children and families/carers.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Membership of appropriate professional body (AASW, APS or organisations registered with PACFA).
  • Current NSW Drivers Licence and Working with Children’s Check for paid employment purposes.
