About Launch Housing

Launch Housing is an independent Melbourne based community organisation passionately committed to ending homelessness. From providing high-quality housing to an innovative range of support, education, and employment services, we bring solutions to homelessness under one roof for thousands at risk or experiencing the crisis and trauma of homelessness. With over 400 staff working across 14 locations in metropolitan Melbourne, we combine direct action with advocacy, research, and innovation to drive widespread change.

About the role

Elizabeth Street Common Ground (ESCG) is delivered in collaboration between Launch Housing and Unison. ESCG was the first supportive housing project of its kind in Victoria, and the second in Australia.

ESCG is based on the Common Ground model of supportive housing which began in New York City over 20 years ago. The model is centred on strengthening individuals and communities by developing sustainable and affordable housing. Common Ground brings people together in a managed building, which includes spaces for community engagement, living skills capacity building, and leisure and recreation. There are dedicated health spaces for GP, nursing and massage therapy services, as well as for support staff to undertake work with their clients. 24 hour concierge services are also provided and this is augmented during evenings and weekends with out of hours worker support.

The Common Ground approach prioritises and houses those most at risk, and works from a Housing First perspective, with specialist housing support and property management being provided by separate agencies working in partnership. The model acknowledges housing as the first step towards stability, and that housing coupled with support enables people to move towards healthy, independent lives.

We are currently seeking Concierge and Administration Workers to join our team at Elizabeth Street Common Ground (ESCG). ESCG is an innovative approach to housing people who have experienced long term homelessness and who have high and complex needs. The Elizabeth Street development is the first of its kind in Australia.

The position of Concierge and Administration Worker will primarily be responsible for the smooth operation of the Front of House area at ESCG.

This includes, amongst other duties:

  • Providing reception support to 131 tenants residing in the building
  • Monitoring entry and exit of all tenants, visitors, contractors and visiting professionals to the building and managing visitor access, as required
  • Monitoring CCTV and responding to incidents and emergencies as they arise
  • Undertaking a range of administrative tasks including managing Welfare Check system, communication logs and handling deliveries
  • Monitor the fire panel and elevator systems
  • Providing a lead response in implementing emergency procedures in building and security related matters
