Launch Housing is an independent Melbourne based community organisation passionately committed to ending homelessness. From providing high-quality housing to an innovative range of support, education, and employment services, we bring solutions to homelessness under one roof for thousands at risk or experiencing the crisis and trauma of homelessness. With over 400 staff working across 14 locations in metropolitan Melbourne, we combine direct action with advocacy, research, and innovation to drive widespread change.

The Women's only Crisis Accommodation is a residential facility with 15 single client rooms, the service provide temporary accommodation (for up to 8 weeks with the possibility of extension), case management, transitional support and other services to assist clients in achieving dignified and sustainable housing outcomes. The program also provides support to women outside the residential facility, including a rooming house located in the St Kilda area.

How you'll make an impact on the community?

Reporting to the Site Manager, Crisis Accommodation, you will be responsible for overseeing and supervising the Case Management team. You will act as a mentor to help facilitate and enhance the on-the-job performance of case workers by reviewing casework, managing caseloads and ensuring effective client outcomes.

In addition, you will:

  • Support a culture and program of continuous improvement, provide direction to support a high-performance culture focused on client outcomes and impact, and the wellbeing of staff
  • Assist in managing critical incidents and other risks that arise at the facility in accordance with Launch Housing policy and DFFH requirements
  • Ensure a consistent, innovative, compliant and best-practice approach to case management at East St Kilda, supporting the improvement of case management and consistency in practices across crisis services
  • Advocate on behalf of clients with other agencies to ensure access to and delivery of effective services.

Note: You will be expected to be on the on-call roster for 4 weeks of the year.

Who are we looking for?

A people leader with experience in Crisis Accommodation setting who can hit the ground running, managing staff, program and services with genuine leadership ability. You will have a passion for working with women and those who identified as female experiencing homelessness and determination to deliver innovative and effective services of the highest possible standard for our client cohort through a feminist leadership approach.

The successful candidate will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in client facing human services, social work or other relevant discipline, with a preference for an understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context and systems
  • Sound people leadership skills, experience in managing staff and striving for consistency in performance and behaviour
  • High degree of initiative and analytical skills, including well-developed organisational and time-management skills
  • Understanding the effect of trauma on clients and vicarious trauma on staff, and ensuring staff wellbeing and sound practices to support clients

Special Conditions:

  • Launch Housing is relying on exceptions contained in sections 28, 60 and 88 of the EO Act to employ and accommodate women only at this site.
