The First Nations Psychological Services Program at Banyule Community Health includes a Therapeutic Counsellor, Social Worker and Outreach Worker. The vital Social Work role supports adults and/or adolescents providing direct case work and social supports, using a person-centred approach to Aboriginal clients who receive Care Coordination and/or Counselling support through the Banyule Community Health Aboriginal Health Team.

The First Nations Psychological Services Program provides flexible, tailored responses to meet the needs of our clients in the most timely and appropriate way, supporting recovery and self-determination, recognising the episodic nature of mental health concerns.

You will work closely and collaboratively with other health care professionals and service providers who are part of the client's care team to support people with a welcoming, responsive, and flexible approach.

Service provision is face-to-face on site (West Heidelberg) and remotely, via telehealth.

Who are we looking for?

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work
  • Experience working with First Nations community members, with issues including AOD, gambling and family violence.
  • If you are a Social Worker, you must be a current member of AASW or eligible for membership. Accredited Mental
  • Knowledge of relevant practice guidelines and frameworks in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing

Banyule Community Health offers a range of support services to First Nations community members. Additionally, there are a range of other Counselling and Support Services including: Gambler's Help, Alcohol and Drug/Dual Diagnosis Counselling, Peer Support, General counselling. Our counselling and support services are committed to working with clients towards their goals in a flexible and holistic manner. Treatment and support is provided both face to face and via telehealth, with individual and group interventions. In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of allied health services, counselling services, medical services, oral health and community health and wellbeing activities.

All our services are underpinned by social and public models of health.

We are located in Melbourne's north and northwest, we are close to public transport, bike paths, shopping precincts and major arterial road networks.
