ABOUT BKI

​Beananging Kwuurt Institute works to support the Aboriginal community by offering programs from our site in Queens Park, WA which is the former site of Old Sister Kates Home. We currently provide food rescue, an op shop, art classes and a community garden.

We are looking for a dynamic person to help us develop the infrastructure and the programs at our site for the long term benefit of the Aboriginal community.

BKI is an agency of the Uniting Church WA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the board in developing the organisation strategic and operational plan
  • Research, source, prepare and submit, alongside the Board, submissions for site development including building restructure, new building and land assets, towards the fulfilling of the Strategic Plan.
  • Lead the preparation and monitoring of BKI’s programs, projects and budgets, including provision of oversight to ensure compliance with statutory and policy obligations.
  • Lead preparation of statutory submissions, approvals, advice and activity statements to facilitate business operations, proposals and sustainable development.
  • Build, model and promote an ethical leadership culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, coordination and partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders and demonstrates dedication and commitment to the values and vision of BKI.
  • Lead the development, implementation of and training in organisational policies and procedures.
  • Identify solutions to balance competing business needs to drive positive outcomes for the local/city/state Aboriginal communities aligned with BKI’s objectives.
  • Build a robust, trained and passionate team of dedicated volunteers through an industry leading volunteer program, with particular focus on developing Aboriginal people.
  • Source, research and prepare funding submissions for program development in line with Operational Plan.
  • Build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships with relevant stakeholders including peers, colleagues, Aboriginal communities, specialist organisations, other public sector agencies and members of the community to support BKI in meeting its goals.
  • Develop and run, in conjunction with the Board, a schedule that maintains, repairs and develops all BKI assets on site.
  • Support the work of the board as requested.

REQUIREMENTS

Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and risk mitigation skills.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, with proven community liaison, stakeholder management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills in conjunction with a strong customer focus and the ability to liaise with a range of public and private sector groups at senior level.
  • Well rounded communication style both written and verbal.
  • Adaptive leadership skills with a natural ability to influence others.
  • Strong administrative skills particularly in the areas of compliance and business delivery.
  • Solution based and effective Inter and Intrapersonal capacity.
  • Empathic and calm demeanour.
  • Developed negotiation and conflict management.

Knowledge

  • Ability to design, implement and run community programs.
  • Understanding of occupational safety, health, equity and diversity principles and practices.
  • Policy development and implementation.

Experience

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Sharepoint and Teams
  • Work autonomously
  • Administrative experience
  • Experience coordinating community outreach programs
  • Experience preparing documents, reports and submissions.

DESIRABLE

Experience in managing cultural heritage programs including Aboriginal heritage sites.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Services/Development; Business; Social Work; Training or similar.
  • Human resources management experience.
  • Knowledge of financial acquittal procedures

THE ROLE

This is a part time role 15 hours per week. Most of the work can be done remotely with occasional visits to the site in Queens Park.
