Brophy Family and Youth Services

Brophy Family & Youth Services have been supporting children, young people, families and the south west Victorian community for almost 50 years. We live here; this is our community; we believe in people and in their ability to create the life they want.

At Brophy you will join a team of just over 180 employees delivering over 40 programs and services across areas including youth engagement, mental health, family violence, foster care, housing support, employment support and disability services.

At Brophy our Vision is not just focussed externally on our community - we feel just as passionate about our employees being meaningfully connected through their roles with us to create the life they want, and that as a workforce we achieve this together through innovation and relationships, creating new horizons towards an advantaged community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Peer Worker: Family and Friends will be an integral member of the Youth Early Intervention Team that provides short-term services to meet the needs of young people, 12 to 25, experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs who would benefit from a range of short-term early-intervention supports to build the knowledge and skills to improve and maintain their mental wellbeing and resilience, and encourage early help-seeking.

They will give a voice to issues related to families of young people accessing headspace Warrnambool services and will act as a positive and empathetic role model for families and friends seeking support at headspace.

They will use their own lived experience in supporting young people to access mental health care and wellbeing services by providing information, education, skills and strategies that support and promote wellbeing through family inclusive practice.

The Peer Worker (Family and Friends) will maintain a caseload, and will deliver high quality family and friend’s support, within their scope of practice, including individual and group supports, and navigation to family and friend’s digital information and referral to other family and friends supports.

They will assist the Leadership Team in championing family inclusive practice, and work collaboratively with the headspace Warrnambool multidisciplinary team to foster family inclusive practice and collaboration in the planning, delivery and evaluation of headspace services.
