Research Assistant - Global Adolescent Health

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our Global Adolescent Health team as we advance our research on menstrual health. You will work closely with Burnet researchers and international collaborators to implement quantitative research to understand the impacts of menstruation on health and education.

Join an innovative learning environment where you’ll be provided ongoing mentorship, the opportunity to lead the production of research outputs, and build your skills & capabilities in Global Public Health research! Travel (when safe to do so) in Asia Pacific is also a component of this role.

In this role you will:

  • Support the establishment of a cohort study to track adolescent girls’ experience of menstruation in Southeast Asia
  • Support ongoing studies to measure unmet menstrual health needs and their impacts over the life-course
  • Develop and implement data management protocols, and conduct quantitative data analysis
  • Support the development of peer-review publications and reports, with opportunities to lead your own publications
  • Establish strong relationships with study collaborators, and provide logistical support
  • Support the dissemination of research findings for varied audiences, including through websites, blog posts, and short summaries.

This is a full time position (0.8 FTE will also be considered), initially for a 2-year period with the possibility of extension. Ongoing part-time working from home and flexible working hours are also possible!

Let’s talk about you

The following criteria are essential requirements:

  • Knowledge of quantitative research methods – including study design, data collection and analysis
  • Experience in the development of research protocols and ethics applications
  • Competency using statistical software for data cleaning and analysis (e.g., Stata, SPSS, R)
  • Experience in data and/or database management
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, for academic and generalist audiences
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently, and also support others
  • Experience engaging stakeholders - especially in cross cultural settings
  • Ability and availably to travel once safe to do so

The following experience is preferable:

  • Experience in survey data collection in cross-cultural settings
  • Experience in menstrual health or sexual and reproductive health research
  • Experience in adolescent health research
