This exciting role is within our innovative Bushlink program. Bushlink is dedicated to creating real and valued employment for people with disability, through a network of working environmental project teams.
Casual position – with possibility for regular shifts. 6.5 - 7 hours per day between the hours of 8:30 am and 3:30 pm at Brookvale or Chatswood as per our organisation’s needs. Must be available early in the week.
Main Job Tasks
- Provide supervision, training and support for team of people with intellectual disabilities to perform onsite tasks
- Perform best practice bush regeneration & gardening tasks including but not limited to: weeding, laying of weed matting, erecting plant shelters, mulching, planting, clearing, propagation, administering herbicide, rubbish collection, pruning, removal/composting of vegetative waste and keeping sites tidy during the day
- Liaise with Manager for tasks, WH&S consultation and task reporting
- Transport team to and from work sites and base with required equipment using Bushlink vehicle
- Conduct daily risk checks and eliminate or reduce risk by appropriate controls in liaison with Manager and client
- Work with school students of all ages via our Schools Inclusion Program
- Work with volunteers in bushland sites and lead groups of Corporate volunteers
- Support team to develop skills and knowledge
- Maintain tools and equipment and cleanliness/organisation of base
- Conduct onsite team training or administration work when required eg. during inclement weather
- Facilitate our Training Team program as required, this includes supporting participants in theory and practical training in bush regeneration
- Complete WH&S and Maintenance reports as due
- Liaise with families and carers of team members with disability
- Perform essential first aid when required
- Attend monthly Bushlink support staff meetings
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Demonstrated field experience in bush regeneration
- Certificate III in Conservation and Land Management or equivalent
- Certificate III Individual Support (Disability) or equivalent, or willingness to obtain
- Ability to supervise small teams of people with disability
- Ability to work with volunteers and lead groups of Corporate Volunteers and School Students
- Understanding of EEO and WH&S principles
- Apply First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain
- Demonstrated experience working with people with disability in skills development
- Current Driver License
- Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
- Chemcert AQ3 qualification
- Advanced communication skills
