Brisbane Youth Service is a non-profit that supports young people (aged 12 – 25 years) and young families who are experiencing homelessness or are at-risk of becoming homeless. We support young people to secure and maintain housing, address physical and mental health issues, establish successful relationships and support networks, and access pathways to education and employment.

The Opportunity

  • Full time position until 30 June 2022
  • 76 hours per fortnight

Are you a dynamic individual with a desire to support at-risk young people and assist them to access training, education and employment as they transition into stable housing?

The Positive Transitions Project Coordinator will support BYS clients aged 16 – 25 to access education, training, employment, volunteering, and community connection to support them as they transition out of homelessness and into safe, stable and affordable housing.

To undertake this role, you will require a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Business or similar experience; have a current Queensland driver’s license and you must hold a current Working with Children Positive Notice (blue card) prior to commencing.

To be successful in your application you will need to provide written responses to the following selection criteria:

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, BYS’s vision and objectives and the knowledge of working within a strengths-based and trauma informed community organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people to enhance their engagement in education, training, employment, and community-based activities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the employment market, and the full range of opportunities for young people to access traineeships, apprenticeships, work experience and employment.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills and the ability to work independently and contribute positively within a team.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop positive and effective relationships with business operators, community organisations and education/training providers.
  • Demonstrated experience developing networks and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employers, education providers, government agencies and other community services.
