Climate Organiser - Cairns

Cairns and Far North Environment Centre
  • Part-time: 22.5 hours per week
  • 12 month fixed term contract
  • Pay: Level 2 SCHADS 2.1, $29.12/hour
  • Location: Cairns

The Climate Organiser will be working with the Director to lead the ‘Our Climate, Our Way of Life’ Campaign. The campaign is a listening based climate campaign that encourages conversations about climate change in our communities, lifts up the issues and solutions that our community identifies and helps build a movement that knows how to take action to see that those solutions become reality.

Through the campaign, the Climate Organiser will also help bring visibility to the call for climate action across FNQ. The door knocking campaign already sees signs going up on fences, and stickers on bins for willing participants. The Climate Organiser will expand that reach by facilitating the distribution of 'Climate Action Now' signs from the CAFNEC office.

The Climate Organiser will work alongside our Community Organiser and broader organising work with member groups and community members. Although each organiser's work is distinct, there is an important collaborative attitude between the roles that means both organisers can see the best outcomes in their work.

Key Outcomes

  • CAFNEC has a skilled and growing team of door knockers
  • Our work has increased public and private conversations about climate change
  • Climate Action Now signs are visible across the Cairns Community
  • We have helped seed and support climate action groups in Cairns
  • We have a clear understanding of the major climate impacts and solutions identified by the community

The Climate Organiser will also coordinate our Climate Action Now Node. In association with the Queensland Conservation Council, CAFNEC will be distributing Climate Action Now signs to anyone who orders a sign on our website. The node will be a place where people can pick up their signs. The Node will be run by a consortium of volunteers from different climate groups across Cairns.
