Role

A small but ambitious national NGO, the Climate and Health Alliance relies on a team of volunteers to deliver its dynamic advocacy agenda.

We are looking for a digital media and communications volunteer who can help amplify our efforts to communicate with members, supporters, media, politicians and policymakers, and the wider public.

The role is not remunerated. CAHA is willing to support current undergraduate or postgraduate students meet academic requirements for internships / achieve appropriate course credit through this role. The time commitment required is approximately 8 hours per week, potentially on an ongoing basis. The hours can be split across multiple days. It may be possible for the right candidate to work offsite, if preferred.

Key activities

  • Update social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn
  • Create and edit web pages on NationBuilder, including developing relevant content and sourcing accompanying images
  • Develop content appropriate to specific social media channels 
  • Help to develop key messages to use on social media
  • Use analytic tools to track website visitor activity and communications engagement 
  • Assist with Nationbuilder data management

Selection criteria

Essential:

  • Strong writing and editing skills, including social media copywriting
  • Comfortable using social media and online communications skills using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other
  • Ability to collaborate and work well in small teams 
  • An independent and motivated worker who is willing to take initiative and has a strong attention to detail
  • Passion for action on climate change and health
  • Able to commit to working flexibly about 8 hours per week, potentially on an ongoing basis

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of NationBuilder; Do Gooder; management experience of social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Linked In.
  • Experience with image design platform (such as Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud)

Opportunity

This role will contribute to the work of a dynamic and respected organisation, and gain valuable experience in a role contributing to public understanding of a complex and important issue. The role provides an opportunity to engage with experts and people working across a range of disciplines, both within the health sector, academia, media, and the broader climate movement.

You will work closely with the Campaigns and Communications Officer, the Graphic Designers and other volunteers in this role.
