WHO WE ARE

Citizen Advocacy is a movement which seeks to promote, protect and defend the welfare and interest of people who have intellectual disabilities.

We are looking for a Program Assistant to work 4 days per week (8.30am-4.30pm) fixed term for 3 years to commence July 2022.

The role will cover Launceston and the (63) phone district and will involve some travel.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone who is motivated, a great networker and is willing to play an active part in a collaborative and close-knit team.

This job is about people and the benefit of voluntary long term relationships with people with disability. Your role will be to find people in need of our service and to find great people to help them.

The Program Assistant will create new networks in the community as well as use their existing personal networks to do this.

It is important that we find someone who is compassionate, non-judgemental and has the belief that people with disabilities have the right to live a life the same as others.

why this role is important

Citizen Advocacy essentially is when a community member who is unpaid (Citizen Advocate) is recruited and matched to a person who has a disability to represent their interests. The purpose of this “match” is to support the person with disability to reach their potential and defend their rights.

The main duties of the Program Assistant is to:

• Identify people with disabilities in need of our service.
• Identify people from the local community to become Citizen Advocates and;
• To provide ongoing support to the relationship.

This isn't a role where you will be sitting inside all day. You will be a part of a passionate, small team working hard towards creating and supporting relationships that will improve peoples lives.

Candidates are expected to have an understanding of the capabilities and challenges faced by people with disability and the way these can impact on their human rights.

To be eligible for this position you must own your vehicle and hold an unrestricted driver’s licence. You will be required to undergo or hold a current Tasmanian Police check and Working with Vulnerable People card.
