Cameron Recruitment

  • Volunteer position

Scouts Australia is seeking a new Chair National Executive Committee (Board) to drive its mission, purpose and strategy to develop the youth of today into the leaders of tomorrow.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted the way the Scouting program is delivered throughout Australia. Scouting has risen to the challenge. Its 2021-2023 strategic plan is sharply focused on how it will set up Scouting in Australia for growth and success in this changing environment.

There are currently more than 53,000 youth members in Australia, who are supported by 17,000 adult leaders. It is a rewarding time to join Scouts Australia, as the organisation looks to nurture the resilience of its members.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader and experienced Board member with demonstrated knowledge of corporate governance, financial management, strategic planning, and risk management.

Duties and responsibilities of the role:

  • Support the Chief Commissioner and oversee the efficient operation of the National Support Team through the National General Manager
  • Convene and chair meetings of the National Executive Committee (Board)
  • Ensure corporate governance is applied throughout the organisation
  • Facilitate constructive stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution
  • Work with the NEC and the Chief Commissioner to develop and implement the National Strategic Plan
  • Represent Scouts Australia at international forums annually
  • Act as a member of the finance, investment, and other Sub-Committees
  • Contribute to the successful delivery of the national budget
  • Support Branches, ensure new members of the NEC are appropriately inducted plus provide guidance and support to Sub-Committee Chairs

What you will bring:

  • Previous Board experience
  • Expertise in chairing committees and meetings
  • Superior leadership skills
  • Ability to run virtual and face to face meetings as well as communicate effectively with remote teams
  • Strong community values
  • Financial understanding
  • Ability to work collaboratively and drive excellent outcomes with volunteers
  • Experience at a senior level in corporate governance and ideally knowledge of the not-for-profit sector
  • Strategic thinking plus an eye for detail
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills

The role of Chair National Executive Committee at Scouts Australia involves after hours and extensive weekend work plus representation at one international forum per year (attendance may be face to face or virtual during the pandemic). It is not a prerequisite to be a current member of Scouts Australia, but a strong interest in the values of the organisation will be highly regarded. Additionally, the role will require preparedness to become a member.
