What does a Youth Worker do?

Lots of things!

This is a casual role where you’ll be working at Moruya Youth Refuge and support young people (15yrs- 17yrs old) in a range of areas. We are looking for a Youth Worker who is available to work flexible hours Monday to Sunday for day and night shifts & are happy to be part of the rotating roster.

On an average day, you could be:

  • Supporting young people who are experiencing homelessness, assisting them with things like: emotional support, mental health, sexual health, housing, education, employment opportunities, and more
  • Assisting young people with activities throughout the day including living skills, transport and accessing services.

What are we looking for in a Youth Worker?

  • Minimum qualification of Cert III in Youth Work or similar service discipline
  • Knowledge of issues faced by young people and their families
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience working with Culturally Diverse Communities including our Aboriginal Community.
  • Experience working with young people individually and in groups
  • Able to obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Have a respectful and trauma informed approach towards youth and family work.
  • Have reliable transport and a current driving licence
  • Ability to work in crisis-situation
  • Basic computer skills
