We are seeking an experienced Legal Policy Advisor to work within the Cancer Prevention and Research division as part of the Make Smoking History team.

Reporting to the Make Smoking History Manager you will be directly responsible for research and advice on legal, regulatory and policy issues relevant to cancer prevention.

Your other main responsibilities will include:

  • Propose and advocate for legal and regulatory reforms to promote cancer prevention
  • Prepare submissions, briefings, policy position statements and complaints
  • Liaise with both government and non-government stakeholders about cancer prevention issues
  • Prepare occasional briefs for legal advice in relation to the services and programs of CCWA

Who are you?

To be successful in this role you will have the following key attributes:

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree (a current practising certificate is desirable but not essential)
  • 3 years’ experience in legal practice
  • Experience in or knowledge of policy development or advocacy
  • Knowledge of cancer control issues will be highly regarded
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proven organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Actively foster the development of a culture consistent with the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Positive approach to the workplace

Based in Subiaco, this position is part time 0.8FTE and fixed term until September 2022.
