As part of a newly formed Child and Youth Cancer Alliance, Camp Quality and Canteen are working together to provide holistic support for 0–25-year-olds with cancer and their families.
Our first priority is to ensure that families impacted by cancer can easily access the multi-faceted support they need. Simultaneously, we want to make it easier for hospitals to ensure their patients are well supported beyond treatment.
Camp Quality and Canteen – as the founding members of the Child and Youth Cancer Alliance - have secured Australian Government funding to develop an online hub where parents can access all the practical and emotional support services their family needs.
The Child and Youth Cancer Alliance Digital Service (CYCADS) program will see the consolidation of the Alliance (Canteen and Camp Quality) services into a single, easy access support hub for children, young people and families. Two key roles, Cancer Navigators and Counsellors, will ensure families are supported to navigate the maze of cancer services as well as provide essential mental health support.
The Cancer Navigator positions are a new and exciting role which can shape this first of its kind program within child and youth cancer. With a Cancer Navigator position based in each state, the key focus of this role is to link families of young cancer patients with appropriate supports within hospital and community-based services.
This role will involve case management, advocacy & well-being support-mapping out key internal and external stakeholders’ relationships, establishing referral pathways to key community organisations and close liaison with hospital-based pediatric and adult oncology teams in each state and territory.
The Cancer Navigation team will be comprised of specialist social workers, nurses, or other experienced allied health who will navigate the service system for families who have a child (0-25) with cancer, by identifying presenting issues, providing information, and linking in with necessary community supports.
Cancer Navigators will work with family members to develop a tailored plan and connect them to the service(s) that best meet their needs. Where required, the Navigators will advocate for the meeting of those needs and assist with coordinating the actions of multiple treatment and support providers
Please note a current open driver's license, ability to obtain a first aid certificate and the flexibility to travel, work weekends and evenings (with notice) are a requirement for this role.

These requirements are essential to gain employment with Canteen and your vaccination status will be discussed as part of the recruitment and selection process.
