About Canteen

Just when life should be full of possibilities, cancer can crash into a young person’s world and shatter everything. Canteen provides young people impacted by cancer, and their parents, with access to a team of Allied Health Professionals who deliver programs, counselling and a range of other group and individual support activities.

The team at Canteen assist these young people to access the support they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence to live healthy and happy lives.

Canteen also engages in community awareness and seeks to develop awareness of cancer support for young people around Australia. Canteen aims to create highly accessible, youth friendly, integrated service hubs as well as a range of online supports, that provide evidence-based interventions and support to young people aged 12–25 years impacted by cancer.

Job Summary

We are looking for an appropriately qualified Allied Health Professional (Psychologist, Provisional Psychologist, Social Worker/Accredited Counsellor or appropriately trained occupational therapist or therapist) to work in our Canberra office on a permanent, part-time 30 hours per week basis.

The role is crucial in attracting referrals into Canteen’s services and promoting Canteen in the community by establishing and maintaining effective medical, psychosocial and educational networks. You will work as part of a devoted and dynamic team, supporting and inspiring young people living with cancer.

The Clinician helps to ensure young people’s involvement in each area of our services is a priority, and that they have opportunities to access and participate in programs across Canteen.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications:

  • A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or related Allied Health Field
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain accreditation, membership or licensing from the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or equivalent national registering body

Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience providing individualised psychosocial assessment and support planning
  • Proven experience in a similar position, demonstrating ability to relate to, and work with young people
  • Strong organisational/project planning and time management skills
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively with regard to recreation and support activities
