ABOUT US

CareerSeekers is a non-profit social enterprise supporting Australia’s humanitarian entrants into professional careers. We work with both mid-career professionals eager to reignite their career in Australia and university students seeking a pathway to graduate employment.

Since we began operating in 2015, we have worked with over 70 of Australia’s most well known employers to create over 820 paid internship opportunities for program participants. Over 80% of participants are able to leverage the experience gained and our wrap around program support, to obtain further professional employment. In 2020 we were awarded the Victorian Multicultural Commission’s Multicultural Award for Excellence in Business.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Advisor in Melbourne, focused on supporting participants in the university student stream of the program.

Program participants are supported by an Advisor, whose responsibility it is to:

  • Process applications from asylum seekers and refugees to participate in the CareerSeekers program, including undertaking screening by phone;
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on interaction with participants in our database;
  • Coordinate attendance of participants at required training sessions;
  • Work extensively with participants to prepare them for internships. This includes providing individual training and coaching and sharing your first-hand experience of the Australian workforce;
  • Support participants and their managers throughout their internship at our partner organisations;
  • Facilitate "Working with Refugees" briefings at employer partner organisations.

A Senior Advisor has the following additional responsibilities:

  • Act as the day to day liaison with nominated employment partners, ensuring participants best suited to opportunities are put forward and partners' reporting needs are met;
  • Facilitate workshops with groups of participants on a range of topics – program orientation; interview skills; internship preparation etc.
  • Where required, provide guidance to the team of Advisors and support them to troubleshoot issues.

Given the nature of the work, this role is predominantly based in our office on Collins St, Melbourne (COVID restrictions permitting). We currently co-locate with our sibling organisation, CareerTrackers.

The role reports to the Program Director – Students.
