Carers NSW is the peak body in NSW for carers of all ages and circumstances. We are a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers and improving their quality of life through support, referrals, capacity building and training.

The role:

The Policy and Development Officer works within the Policy, Research and Projects Unit and reports to the Senior Policy & Research Officer. This position is responsible for supporting and contributing to the work of the Carers NSW Policy Team by undertaking research, consultation, policy analysis and systemic advocacy in relation to issues affecting carers. This is a full time contract position based from our office in North Sydney until June 2022 (with the potential for extension).

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate the following Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications in Social or Political Science, Public Health or other relevant areas
  • Understanding of NSW and Australian Government policy development
  • Demonstrated skills in preparing reports and other documents to a high standard
  • Proven track record in liaising and building effective relationships with government, non government and community organisations
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Carers NSW policy positions and to speak publicly
  • Demonstrated research skills, including the ability to collate data and formulate policy statements and responses to sector inquiries
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
