Carers NSW is the peak body in NSW for carers of all ages and circumstances. We are a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers and improving their quality of life through support, referrals, capacity building and training.

As the Carer Gateway Service Provider (CGSP) in Region 4 of NSW (Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast) we are are looking for Respite Liaison Officers based in Newcastle and Coffs Harbour.

The Role

This position is responsible for liaising with respite providers and carers across Region 4 to arrange planned and emergency respite. When required, this role will also support carers through the Carer Support Planning Process including an intake, registration and needs assessment, support planning and coordination to ensure carers can be holistically supported and appropriately referred to services. This position will be required to demonstrate a high level of experience in telephone support work.

Reporting to the Team Leader, Intake & Assessment you will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work or other relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in providing/arranging respite services
  • Knowledge of the community care and health systems and other programs relevant to carers
  • Understanding of intake, assessment and referral processes provided as part of a telephone information, support and planning process
  • Proven competency in liaising and negotiating with service providers
  • Advanced computer skills and experience with utilising a CRM
  • Understanding of and commitment to carer issues and needs

In addition, knowledge of the Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast (Region 4) will be highly regarded.
