  • The position attracts a salary of circa $75,000 p.a. plus superannuation, tax savings through salary packaging option.
  • 5 weeks annual leave (additional 17.5% leave loading on annual leave) and two wellness days per annum pro rata.

About Carers WA

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental illness, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol, or other drug issue or who are frail aged. Carers WA is the lead Regional Delivery Partner in Western Australia for the new Carer Gateway and Integrated Carer Support Services (ICSS), funded by the Department of Social Services.

The Role:

The Coach & Peer Facilitator is responsible for providing one-to-one coaching to carers and organising and facilitating peer support groups, both in-line with Carer Gateway Coaching and In Person Peer Support (IPPS) guidelines. The Carer Gateway is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Social Services providing a mix of free online, telephone and in-person supports, services and advice, for carers in Australia. These services have been specifically designed and tested by carers to help reduce stress and build resilience in the caring role.

The In Person Peer Support program provides an opportunity for carers to meet and share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop networks to help support and connect with others in the carer community. The IPPS is based on four service delivery modules of: Connection, Finding Community, Making Meaning of Now and Finding Purpose.

The Carer Coaching program provides an opportunity for one-to-one coaching sessions with carers to empower them to take steps towards making positive changes and offering a reflective space to build resilience and capacity.

This position is part of a growing team who work with and support carers to identify their goals and ensure that an appropriate support plan is prepared, implemented and evaluated regularly. You will be required to work successfully in facilitating and promoting groups whilst also contributing to a collaborative, inclusive team environment and communicate professionally and empathetically with carers. Flexibility in the position will also be required, balancing outreach work with phone support for carers in the community.

Our successful candidate will have:

  1. Experience with group facilitation skills and/or delivering information to groups of stakeholders.
  2. A relevant qualification (Cert IV Community Services, Diploma Social Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Training, Coaching, etc.) and/or experience in the community service sector and/or in providing training, education and coaching services in the public or private sector.
  3. Knowledge of “Coaching” methodology and implementation.
  4. Experience in the NGO and/or healthcare sectors with direct supports to clients.
  5. Knowledge of community care and health systems and other programs relevant to carers.
  6. Demonstrated understanding around working with Aboriginal, CALD and LGBTIQ individuals and communities.
  7. High level of competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
  8. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in a community service or health-based context.
  9. Willingness to work flexibly including active participation in change management.
