About the role

At CatholicCare our services are expanding and we are seeking an experienced child focused Caseworker to join our Integrated Domestic & Family Violence Service (IDFVS). You will have the opportunity to work with a passionate team on the Central Coast that works collaboratively to make our Community a safer and better place for all.

The main objective of this role is to address risk and safety needs of children and young people while providing practical and emotional support that will help maintain stability in education, childcare and community.

The goal is to assist in prevention of further escalation of issues that contribute to their vulnerabilities by providing a collaborative, strength based, trauma informed, child centred case management approach to meet their individual needs.

This role is a fixed-term contract (until June 2026), working 4 days per week and we offer a flexible working arrangement. The position is based in Tuggerah and will require you to travel across the Central Coast visiting families in their residential homes or in the Community.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver child-aware, parent-sensitive, trauma-informed practice.
  • All case managed clients will receive a safety risk assessment, safety plan and set goals to meet their individual needs.
  • Engage with children through conversation by listening to what they are saying, both verbally and non-verbally, and responding appropriately at the child’s level of capacity and understanding.
  • Identify when the development and behaviours of children have been impacted by trauma.
  • Utilise relational approaches to maintain genuine curiosity in the strengths of the parent-child relationship.
  • Utilise and build on strengths to empower and build capacity to help client recover from abuse and trauma effects.
  • Advocate for children and young peoples’ rights and needs.
  • Engage with client’s broader social environment and work in collaboration to support safety, education and wellbeing.
  • Build connection with families broader social networks (where safe to do so) or new community networks to meet child’s goals.
  • Respect, listen and respond to the diverse, lived experience and knowledge of women and children affected by domestic and family violence.
  • Promote a 'risk-aware' culture where staff proactively identify, report and address all forms of risk to clients, staff and CatholicCare.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Education or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role, working with and engaging with young people aged 4 -18 years.
  • Good understanding of developmental stages of children, attachment theory and signs when trauma has affected these behaviours.
  • Good understanding of the effects that fear, coercion and trauma play on a child’s physical safety, social and emotional wellbeing and mental health.
  • Experience in training in group work facilitation.
  • Demonstrated practice experience relating to current Child Protection and DFV legislation.
  • Strong networking and advocacy skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with people from cultural backgrounds.
  • A NSW Driver's Licence and insured vehicle.
